KATSUO MATSUMURA

In 1946 Katsuo joined Junzo Yoshimura Design Office, where he was mainly responsible for furniture design. In 1955 he was commissioned by Matsuya Ginza to design the sales floor of the Good Design Corner, and in 1958 he established Matsumura Katsuo Design Office. Since then, he has designed numerous pieces of furniture and is regarded as one of the pioneers of Japanese furniture design. Katsuo has had a strong interest in Hida furniture since his youth, and in 1986 he began working with Katsuo on the production of the Gama Chair. He has produced many pieces made from domestic timber, but many of his masterpieces have been discontinued.
